Therapy for Trauma
Not sure what you need but you know you need help?
Trauma responses are normal human reactions to abnormal events!
When something happens that’s scary, threatening, and out of our control, our brains act to protect us from harm. Sometimes people feel a surge of energy and can take on tremendous physical tasks to survive. Other times, people cannot move or react to the circumstances happening around them. Whatever the response to a traumatic event, we need help processing the thing that’s happened.
Sometimes people talk to us about recent traumatic events and sometimes about traumatic events from their past. Either way, we’re here to help you integrate the trauma through trauma-informed talk therapy. We’ll take stock of how the trauma is impacting your life in the here and now, and collaborate on strategies to decrease its impacts on your life.
While media portrayals of trauma-informed therapy show people telling their story in detail to a new therapist, we follow best practices in trauma therapy and discourage spilling your story without adequate preparation. Some people never share the whole story with us, and that’s okay. You are in control of what you share and when you share it.
Our strengths-based, person-centered approach means that we see you as a whole person and not just a cluster of trauma symptoms.
